The Truth About Getting To #1 On Google

All of us here at OMG National are constantly asked a single question by our clients: “What do I have to do to get my business on the first page of Google?” The answer to this question is often much longer and complicated than our clients are expecting. If you’re not familiar with Google’s practices, the best place to start in order to understand the answer to this question is to take a look at the different sections on a Google results page.

There are three sections of a Google search engine results page (SERP) that we are going to focus on for the sake of this blog article. They are as follows:

The Paid Section:

The paid section of a Google SERP is essentially exactly what it sounds like – the destination for advertisements created and paid for via Google AdWords. Because this is the paid section of the page, the businesses advertising here essentially get VIP treatment. They are placed at the top of the page as well as the very bottom of the page, and advertisers are given a lot of options to really customize the ads and catch the eye of the consumer they are trying to target.

In order to rank well here, you need to of course run a Google AdWords campaign. This is typically the easiest area to rank well in, because as soon as you turn a properly created AdWords campaign on, your ad will start to rank. A Google AdWords campaign only charges you for advertising when your ad is actually clicked, which is why they are also commonly referred to as pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns. The amount you are charged when the ad is clicked can vary greatly. The amount is determined by what keywords were bid on when the ad was created, how much the keywords cost per click, and what specific keywords were searched for by the consumer who clicked the ad. When clicked, these ads can either direct to an immediate phone call from a mobile device, or take customers to any destination on the web of your choosing.

At OMG National, our paid search department is at-the-ready to get your business running full-steam ahead with a powerful PPC campaign. The Maps Section
:

The maps section appears on Google SERPS directly below the paid section. It features a number of different businesses based off of the geographic area searched from, or the one manually searched for by entering either a zip code, state, county, city, or town within the search. Google currently allows three businesses to rank in the first page of results within this section.

In order to rank well in this area you need to make sure your Google My Business listing is fully optimized. Products and services offered, business categories, descriptions, and service areas need to be well-defined in the listing. Furthermore, reviews play a HUGE factor in how you rank here. The more positive reviews your business has, and the more recently they’ve come in for you the better.

OMG National has a program dedicated to making sure your business ranks well in the featured maps section of its SERP.   The Organic Section:

The organic section is typically the most difficult to rank well within on a Google SERP. This section takes up the largest amount of real estate on a Google SERP and appears beneath the maps section. All of the results here are ranked based on a myriad of things that Google looks at, both in the content actually featured on a website, the back-end of a site and how it structures its information, and the actual infrastructure of the site or how it’s designed.

This section is called organic because the only way to rank well here is to fully optimize your website according to what Google is currently looking at, and then wait for Google to notice your site, index it, and decide where you will appear on the SERP based off of what keywords are entered in the search.

OMG National has an entire department dedicated to SEO management and helping your business rank well organically. Take a look at how your business is currently performing in this section of the Google SERP by clicking here: http://bit.ly/2pmGi2A
