Micro-moments are a new type of search being performed millions of times monthly on Google. These are best defined as everyday digital search queries submitted by users who are looking to find something, buy something, or do something with a brand which is near to them, geographically speaking. When coupled with the fact that 82% of smartphone users consult their smartphone when researching an upcoming purchase, and you can see how important being “found” within those search results can be.
For the first 5 months of 2016, searches such as: “auto service company near me”, or “pizza near me”, or “tow truck near me”, have nearly doubled and have drastically affected certain industries. It’s imperative that small and mid-sized brands take advantage of positioning themselves to be found in these search results.
Optimizing for these searches requires that you take in to account several of the signals which have been referenced in our previous blog post.
- The first and most important is your Google My Business listing. Make sure that you have it built out right, accurate phone and address information, photos, link to YouTube, sitelinks, well written narrative, and any additional secondary information which is allowed by Google.
- Next would be NAP consistency, ensuring that your exact address, phone, and other NAP info like web address, and secondary or toll-free numbers have been added to the most relevant directories in all the right places.
- Acquiring more local links (on your site) such as events, related businesses, and new social media pages make a strong impression on your SERP page (rankings).
- Pulling in new reviews to your website, and your various review sites now play a MAJOR role in Google’s algorithm for local search.
Here at OMG National, we add approximately 80-100 new Online Marketing clients each month. Each company we work with has its own history, its own story to share. Each client is in a different place when it comes to their online marketing past. As part of our OMG Partner Marketing Programs, the first thing we handle is all of the listings. Making sure that these are built out, built up, and maximized for power and impact is the best practices approach which we have found to be very successful as a foundation for digital marketing.
Be sure to conduct a quick search today on Google, try this:
(your company type) ie. pharmacy, auto body shop, furniture store
and then type: near me (see the images of actual searches conducted this morning)
You can do this verbally on your iPhone with Siri, or on your Android with their digital assistant as well. You might even notice that Google is prompting you by adding the “near me” automatically. The top results showing as viable options even before I clicked “submit” are those companies that have taken care of their listings and are on the maps, with reviews, etc. This shows how important these local search types have become and is another example of the smartphone at work in our lives and making waves within our businesses.
