Voice Search Revolution

The increasing use of voice search has made it important for companies to rethink their digital marketing strategies in 2019.

  • 50 %will be voice searches by the year 2020

Google My Business: Q & A

Have you noticed Google’s latest feature on your Google My Business page? It’s Q&A and  allows Google to crowdsource information about local businesses that may not be available within the structured attributes of Google My Business, or which is not immediately obvious from a local business’s own website.

Many SEO experts including our team here at OMG also speculate that Q&A may be assisting Google as it builds out an inventory of Voice Search queries and answers via Google Assistant

In a nutshell, Q&A provides valuable information to potential new customers.

How Does Google Q&A Work?

Any time a local business shows up in a Google search results, Google presents searchers with the option to ask a question about that business. In addition, we have created leading Questions and Answers that can put you in the best light and be the most relevant at the same time!

Once posted, the question appears on that business’s Google My Business profile.

Depending on which device they’re using, Local Guides (basically, super-users of Google Maps) may receive notifications that unanswered questions exist at businesses they’ve visited or that are located near them.

Take Control of Your Reviews – Tow Edition

If you own or operate a towing business, then you likely know the heavy impact that bad reviews can have on your business. Customers are paying more and more attention to online review sites such as Yelp, Google Reviews, and even Facebook ratings.

Just a single bad review can drag your star ratings down. Heavy search volume for business reviews, has caused Google to promote sites like Yelp, Angie’s List, Home Advisor, and the Better Business Bureau. This interest by the public in online reviews, has caused Google to adjust its algorithm for search and has made them easily accessible within search. These reviews, if positive, can greatly assist operators in leveraging them for sales, conversely, negative reviews can cause sales to take a nosedive, as well as bringing about long term consequences.

Take this real-life story as an example of how a single negative review can impact a business:

James has operated his family towing business for over 20-years. As a tower for 5 different motor clubs, his trucks are always busy. James has made a name for his company, taking pride in his fleet of branded trucks, supporting his community, and working closely with the local police and sheriff’s department. Recently, one of his drivers was called to a DUI tow away. Though the tow itself went well, the mother of the driver went nuts, creating scathing reviews across Yelp, Google, and even their local town’s Facebook group. The next week James was following up on a large private property contract, he had met the customer already and felt that it was a done deal. When he arrived, the owner’s son came out to greet him. He stated that they had read their reviews and were concerned. James explained and the customer advised James that he would get back to him. Ultimately, that contract went to a competitor who was brand new to the area.

Another less known impact of reviews in the towing business, is on insurance renewals. Recently, a tower from Maryland was denied his insurance renewal. Once of the reasons stated by his broker was a preponderance of negative reviews. With insurance rates skyrocketing and always hard to obtain in the towing business, a well-managed system for handling reviews can save a lot of time and headache.

Issues like these are much more common than you would imagine. At OMG National, our clients are often faced with having to deal with “bad review fallout”.

According to Lee Resources, when a customer is left unhappy, there is a 91% chance that they won’t do business with that company again. To make matters worse, the White House Office of Consumer Affairs found that a dissatisfied customer told, on average, 9 to 15 people about a negative experience with a company. Imagine what a single bad experience can do when an angry customer has a phone or computer and easily-accessible review sites at their disposal!

Whether the accounts are legitimate or not, one cannot underestimate the importance of managing online reviews. As a business owner, you should acknowledge every review that comes in. The fact of the matter is that once a review is written and posted, the damage is done. The bigger concern is how you go about protecting your interests and dealing with them.

Claim Your Review Pages
It is critical that you monitor your review pages. Your business may have a sterling reputation, but a single bad review can snowball quickly, and not “minding your pages” can lead to a sudden and sharp downturn in your revenue. The solution is to claim your pages and to keep a watchful eye on Yelp, Google My Business, Facebook, and any industry specific review sites.

Devise and Implement a System for Dealing with Bad Reviews
Never let a bad review go one-sided! Whether you question the legitimacy of a review, it is important to respond to the reviewer in a sincere way, and to invite offline resolution of the issue. Yes, you will need to mitigate the damage and it may require some defense, but an acknowledgement of their concern, that is sincere and invites a conversation is best practice.

Target Bad Reviews and Flag Reviews That Seem Illegitimate
Some bad reviews may resonate with you, you might remember the interaction. On the other hand, many businesses encounter reviews that seem…fishy. If you feel that a review is completely unwarranted or that it could have come from a competitor, many review sites have a process for “flagging” these in order to report them. While some bad reviews remain even after flagging, it is important to jump on the review process quickly to ensure that no one is taking advantage of your company for personal reasons or otherwise.

Ask for Good Reviews
According to Inc. magazine, it takes roughly 40 good reviews to undo the damage of one review. The flip side, though, is that only 1 in 10 happy customers leaves a review. The act of simply asking customers for whom you have provided good service, to provide you with online feedback is easy and effective. There are many ways that you can do this, whether it is directly requested via email with a link to your Yelp or Google page, printed reminders, or any other feedback solicitation.

March 2019: Voice Search – Position ZERO

Bring it On! OMG is at the forefront of voice search and we see it working for our clients on a daily basis.

Do you use Voice Search? Well, 50% of us are using it daily and the numbers continue to grow. Typed and spoken searches will output different results. Which means that optimizing your site for a traditional search doesn’t always look the same as optimizing your site for voice search.

The most significant concern about voice search? People using voice search on mobile will get only one top result. This one result is affectionately dubbed “position zero,” and everyone wants it. By 2020, half of all searches will be conducted by voice. So by 2020, half of your potential customers won’t see your website even if you’re fourth in the Search Engine Results Page or SERP. Ranking number one — or securing position zero — will be the main goal for every business owner.

Wow! Google is at it again, with all roads leading to Google My Business (GMB).

Google MAPS are the coveted spot for local search, yet there is still no hard and fast rule as to who is on the list. We already know that “Intent” is the goal of Google, so logically, Distance, Relevance, and Prominence are key factors which include accurate listings, correct categories, reviews, and structured data, which we develop and maintain for all our clients.

Now that Google My Business (GMB) is being integrated with Search, attributes from your GMB posts and website snippets seem to add the extra elements needed to get and stay on the maps.
